MessageVault ("the app") lets you save posts and links you share from other apps, and makes them searchable using automated tagging. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is stored, and the limited cases in which information leaves your device.
We have designed MessageVault to keep your data on your device. We do not require an account, we do not track you, and we do not sell your information.
When you share a post or link to MessageVault, the app saves the following in a private, encrypted database inside the app's secure App Group container on your device:
This information is stored locally, protected with iOS file protection, and excluded from iCloud backups. It is not uploaded to any server operated by Volta Solutions LLC. We do not operate a user database and cannot see your saved items.
To make your saved posts searchable, the app uses automated tagging. When an item is saved, the app sends a small amount of information about that post to a secure relay (proxy) we operate. The relay then forwards it to an AI provider that returns descriptive tags. The relay exists so that provider credentials are never placed in the app, and so the app communicates only with our own server.
Depending on the post, one of two routes is used:
In both cases we send only publicly available preview content — a public thumbnail and/or a short public snippet. We never send the full body of a private message, a private attachment, your contacts, your name, or your account information, because the app does not collect those things.
A randomly generated, per-installation identifier is included with these requests solely to enforce rate limits on our relay. This identifier is not your name, account, or a cross-app advertising identifier, and it is not used to build a profile of you.
We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell it. The providers process the content solely to return tags.
When you open the filter options for a search, the app may send your search term and a sample of the tags from your current results to our relay to generate suggested filters. This is processed by one of our AI providers (DeepSeek or OpenAI) to return filter suggestions. It is not used for advertising and is not sold.
Our AI providers process the limited content described above in different locations. OpenAI processes data in the United States. DeepSeek processes data on servers located in China. This means that when a post is tagged using the text route, or when search-filter suggestions are generated using DeepSeek, the short public snippet and related public context are processed on servers in China.
We send only limited public content for this processing — a short public snippet, optional public title and platform, and (for the image route, which uses OpenAI) a downscaled public thumbnail. We do not send your name, account, contacts, private message content, or private attachments.
By using automated tagging and filter suggestions, you understand that this limited public content may be processed internationally, including in China. Tagging only occurs when you save a post, and filter suggestions only occur when you open the filter options, so you can avoid this processing by not using those features.
MessageVault offers an auto-renewing subscription. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your credit card number or billing details. Subscription management, renewal, and cancellation are handled in your Apple account settings. Apple's privacy policy governs its handling of your payment information.
Saved items remain on your device until you delete them or delete the app. We do not retain copies on our systems because we do not store your saved items on our systems.
MessageVault is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will assist.
We use iOS file protection and platform security features to protect data stored on your device, and encrypted connections for the limited data sent for tagging. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected in the app or its App Store listing.
